Riffin’ With Doggans: Volume 1 is now available on DVD and digital download!

This collection includes the first ten episodes of Riffin’ With Doggans with brand-new intros, plus nine new commercial riffs and a new riff on a savings stamp promotional film starring the TV version of a certain hero I’ve previously only riffed in animated form! Plus there’s Alternate Jokes, Reverse Commentary Mode (commentary on the intros while the shorts remain unriffed), and Frog Dissection Mode (a caption track that explains all the jokes)!
If you preorder the DVD on Payhip, you can add the digital download to your cart absolutely free! You can also buy the download on its own on Payhip or Patreon for $15!
You can also get the digital download by pledging to Patreon at the $5 level or above!
And if you only want to check out one bonus feature in particular, they are available a la carte! So you can watch just the new intros, just the new commercial riffs, just the new Stamp Day riff, or just the alternate jokes for $5 each!
And now, some FAQs! (Even though nobody has actually asked me any of these yet, so these are more accurately PAQ’s–Preventatively Asked Questions.)
Q: What videos are on this DVD?
A. The first ten episodes of Riffin’ With Doggans! (Which is to say, Bicycle Safety, Goodbye to Garbage, Achievement USA, Superman, Learn to Argue Effectively, The Mechanical Monsters,How to Use Classroom Films, Billion Dollar Limited, Let’s Make A Sandwich, and The Arctic Giant.) Plus, brand new intros and outtros for each riff, nine brand new commercial riffs, a brand new riff on Stamp Day for Superman, a brand new commentary on the brand new intros, a brand new subtitle track that explains the jokes and references, and previously-Patreon-exclusive alternate jokes!
Q. Did you say Superman? You don’t own the rights to that, do you?
A. It’s true, I don’t have the rights to the character of Superman, and this DVD has not been approved by Warner Bros or DC Comics. But the particular Superman films included in this collection are all in the public domain! The cartoons fell into the public domain due to a lack of renewed copyright, and Stamp Day is public domain because was produced by the United States Federal Government.
Q. So these are exactly the same as when I saw them on YouTube?
A. Almost! For some of the films (namely, Achievement USA and the Superman cartoons), I was able to find slightly better prints than the ones I used for the original riffs, so I have updated the visuals on those. The jokes, however, are exactly the same, albeit maybe with a slightly better sound mix in a few cases.
Q. So why should I buy a DVD full of things I already saw?
A. You don’t have to if you don’t want to! If you just want to buy the brand-new bonus features, they are available a la carte for $5 a piece! The NEW riffs contain material you DEFINITELY haven’t seen on YouTube!
Q. What is the runtime of the DVD?
A. The main feature runs about two hours and seven minutes, and the “alternate jokes” bonus feature runs about nine minutes.
Q. Why isn’t [my favorite riff of yours] on the DVD?
A. Odds are because it isn’t one of the first ten! I’m planning on releasing more DVDs in the future; eventually we’ll get to your favorite riff! (Assuming it’s one of mine and you haven’t mistaken me for another riffer. There’s a lot of dorky white guys who riff movies; I’m just one of them.)
Q. Will the new material for the DVD ever be released for free on YouTube?
A. Ever? Uh, maybe SOMEday, but not anytime soon. Certainly not within the next two years at the very least. Your best bet to see the new material is to buy the collection, or just buy the particular piece of new material that intrigues you a la carte.
Q. Nobody watches DVDs anymore, why are you doing this?
A. Nobody really watches my riffs either, so I figured the venn diagram between “nobody” and “nobody” has got to be a pretty large demographic! But even so, that’s why there’s also the digital download option.
Q. Is this the only doggans show that will get a DVD release?
A. I hope not! I’d like to release other DVDs with my other material, but basically all of my other shows will require HEAVY re-editing to remove copyrighted material before they can be released for purchase, so I’d want to make sure there was interest first before putting in the effort to re-edit episodes I already spent too long editing. Plus, some episodes of my other shows just wouldn’t work without the copyrighted material, so most of those shows are more likely to get “best of” DVDs than “complete series” DVDs.
As my only show so far based entirely on public domain material, Riffin’ With Doggans is likely to get the most complete DVD release of all my currently-existing shows.
Q. Which store should I buy from?
A. Whichever is most convenient for you! I recommend Payhip, because at the moment that’s the only store where you can buy the DVD and get the digital download free; the other stores so far only sell one or the other, or only sell them separately. But I’m looking into additional platforms, and I’m hoping that being able to buy the DVD and get the digital download free can be the norm rather than the exception, but we shall see!
Q. I’m watching the DVD and you just won’t shut up! I’m trying to watch the films!
A. If that’s all you want, you can select Reverse Commentary Mode! It features commentary on the host segments, but the films themselves are unriffed for your enjoyment! (But being public domain films, there are plenty of other places you can find them all, unriffed by me or anybody else, if that was really your concern.)
Q. Why don’t the subtitles match up with the dialogue?
A. You’re probably watching the second subtitle track, Frog Dissection Mode. These are subtitles that explain the jokes and references, but subtitle track 1 is the standard English subtitle track.
Q. Will Debbie ever see that bird?
A. We can only hope!
